Renovation Via Europa – entrance to Via Occitania

On June 23rd, a meeting was held at the office of the Vecinos Cala Murada Civic Association at the request of the Urban Planning Delegate, Núria Hinojosa, and the Coastal Delegate, Sebastián Nadal.
The board members of the citizens’ association and the neighbours who could be affected by the presented project were present. These had been notified in advance by the board of directors. Since the meeting was announced by the delegates at very short notice, unfortunately not all neighbours could be informed or attend.

Improvement at the entrance to Via Occitania

The presented project was worked out in 2020/21. The aim is to improve security in the entrance area of Cala Murada on the Vía Europa, from the bus stop at the administration building to the junction with the Via Occitania. Wider lanes, a side walk, pedestrian crossings, appropriate lighting and speed bumps are planned to reduce vehicle speeds. The delegates presented the project in detail, discussed the various aspects of the project with those present and answered the questions that arose. As grants are currently being made available for this work by the Consell de Mallorca and Govern Balear, this project has been prioritized for implementation.

In the end, everyone present was convinced that it was a sensible expansion plan for Cala Murada.

The meeting also discussed the following other projects for Cala Murada, which are currently being planned:

Improve Via Occitania to the entrance to Calle Baveira

The point here is that the Via Occitania should be made safer from the junction with the Via Europa up to Calle Baveira.

Two points are particularly important here

  • Fall protection for torrent
  • Expansion of the missing street lighting

This project is planned and can be implemented as soon as the appropriate funds are available.

Sewerage and water supply

The delegates also informed about the status of the project study regarding the planned sewage system and the new water supply for Cala Murada. The current status of the plans was shown and explained. The project is still in the preparatory phase, as not all details have been finally clarified. Both those present and the city council in Manacor consider this project to be urgently needed and it should actually start NOW, as we have actually been waiting for this expansion in Cala Murada for years. It is a difficult and costly task. This is planned and probably implemented in several steps.

Personal initiative for road repairs

The state of the roads in Cala Murada was also addressed once again, in which the municipality has not invested a single euro in 40 years. Our president asked whether neighbours could join forces to have their streets resurfaced, pay for the asphalt, and whether the community would then allow it. This was approved by the delegates and they will support this.

Finally, the board pointed out to the delegates the current dangerous situation in the centre of Cala Murada.
On the one hand, this is caused by the new pavement, which has significantly narrowed the roadway in the area of the restaurant and shops, and on the other hand, by the high volume of rental cars parked there, since the majority of guests now arrive at the hotel with rental cars and the hotel no free parking space available.

The delegates took a look at the situation after the meeting and want to discuss the situation in the office.
